I first started tattooing when I was at school, the traditional school stuff. I never took school seriously and used to skive whenever I could. It was in the last two years of school that I actually started to take an interest in Art. One of my teachers took an interest in my artwork and started to push me. I started turning out some good paintings, mainly copies of fantasy art pieces from artists like Boris and Frank Frazetta. On leaving school I got a job as a trainee plater and welder for 3 years, then I worked in a local glassworks. It was one of those places where anyone could get a job and everybody seemed to be tattooed. Some of the staff organised visits to various tattoo studios on Saturdays to have work done, and it was during this time that I got the craving to tattoo again. I started tattooing in my lunch breaks until I was made redundant, after picking up £400 redundancy, most of which went on debts, I went out to get a washing machine and came back with my first tattoo equipment! I hadn't been working from home long when I got offered premises. I thought 'Yeah, my own studio!" and took it on. One day a bloke walks in and started asking questions about sterilising equipment. I asked him who he was and he told me his name was Kev Shercliff. He was tattooing in Stafford, working from his house. He told me I was more than welcome to go over and see him and he would help me out. At this time Kev was working as a sheeter and tattooing part time. I realised that I had a lot more to learn, closed the so called studio, bought a decent machine, power pack and other necessities and went back to working from home. I spent a lot of time learning and trying out different techniques. Another year past and I got a message that Kev Timmins, who ran a tattoo studio in the area, wanted to see me. I thought I was going to get a kicking and told to shut down, so I went to see Kev fearing the worst, to my relief he offered me a job at his studio. Over the following months Kev taught me what he could and introduced me to Micky Sharpz. I started using Micky's tattoo machines and equipment and found my work improved greatly through the use of professional equipment. Since then I have worked in Kev Timmins tattoo studio in Dudley, Kev Shercliff's tattoo studios in Cannock and Stoke, started my own tattoo studio in Wednesbury, and then Native Ink Tattoo Studio in Stafford. Finally moving to Body Art Studios in Sedgley where I am currently working. To be honest, if it wasn't for all the help I have been offered, I am not sure where I would be, or what I would be doing. I would like to take this chance to thank everybody who has helped me over the years. I won't embarrass anybody by naming them, you know who you are - sincere thanks. Andy Morris
